Band Week – October 13

Attendance Reminder: If you miss more than one hour of practice due to an unexcused absence, you cannot go to the weekly game with the band. A doctor's note is considered an excused absence, allowing students to attend the game but not participate in the halftime show. 

Schedule This Week

• Monday, 10/13 – Practice 3:30–5:30

• Tuesday, 10/14 – Practice 3:30–5:30

• Wednesday, 10/15 – Leadership homecoming practice immediately after school; should finish by 3:30

• Thursday, 10/16 – Parents please sign up here to help the band during this game. 

  • • 6:30 AM: WNSP Radio Spot on Davidson campus - Leadership required; everyone else is encouraged to attend; location TBD

    • 6th or 7th Period (TBA): Full School Pep Rally in the stadium

    • 5:30 PM: Pin-on ceremony for freshman and sophomore marching members, including color guard

      • • Will be held in the auditorium; attendance open to everyone

        • First and Second year students please choose a more senior band mamber or someone outside of the band to present your pendant

        • 3rd years and 4th years will be pinned on later. 3rd years can be pinned on by 4 years, family, or Mr. Messer. 4th years can by pinned on by family or Dr. Beattie

    • 6:15 PM: March down to the stadium

    • 6:30 PM: Pregame - Perform Wicked show 

    • 6:40 PM: Move to pregame set

    • 7:00 PM: Go to the stands and play stand tubes with alumni band members

    • 8:15 PM: Perform "My Girl" for the homecoming set

    • 9:30 PM: Game ends - woodwinds who did not turn in practice time will help clean the stadium

      • • All students turn in bibbers and jackets for dry cleaning

Student Weekly Reminders:

• Bring clothes for practice.

• Stay hydrated throughout the day.

• Bring a water source with your name on it to practices and games.

• Set a phone alarm for Sunday night weekly to pack your instrument for Monday.

• Practice minutes due for the contest band at the end of every month.  Minutes Submission Form 

  1. 1. 200 minutes for section members

     2. 400 minutes for section leaders

     3. Next due date Friday, October 31st

Parent Reminders:

• Paid "Sorry. Can't. Marching Band Season" t-shirt preorders are now with Mr. Messer.

• Limited quantities of the black "I'm With The Band" and gray "Sorry. Can't. Marching Band Season" still available for sale. Please email yaybandcontest@gmail.com for more information!

• Purchase football tickets this season:  GoFan - Davidson Home Games (All parents must purchase tickets unless signed up to volunteer with the band for home and away games.)

• Mr. Messer's "room" is set up in the MCPSS app. Please download the app on your device. If anyone cannot join the class they are supposed to be in, parent or student, email Mr. Messer and let him know. There are rooms for each period of band, color guard, and percussion.

• If fees are not paid, students cannot receive a uniform or attend the football game as part of the band. Pay On Cut Time Now
